Long-stay visa for language assistants

You have been recruited as a foreign language assistant in a school or university in France (primary school, secondary school, high school or university). To carry out this role, which usually lasts several months, you need to obtain a long-stay visa suited to your status.

Depending on your situation, this is most often a long-stay visa equivalent to a residence permit (VLS-TS) with the status “temporary worker” or sometimes “student”, depending on the recruitment programme.

JJP Visas Consulting supports you throughout your visa and residence process in France, ensuring everything is handled smoothly and correctly.

Who is concerned?

You are eligible if:

  • You have received an official appointment letter or contract as a language assistant through an official organisation (France Éducation international, rectorate, university, Alliance Française, etc.)
  • You will carry out a teaching assignment lasting several months (usually 6 to 12 months), with a defined workload (generally around 12 hours per week)
  • You are a national of a country outside the European Union, the EEA or Switzerland and need a long-stay visa to carry out your role

Your status therefore depends directly on the recruitment programme and the nature of your assignment.

What the “language assistant” visa allows

This long-stay visa allows you to:

  • Enter France and stay for the entire duration of your assignment
  • Work legally as a language assistant in a French educational institution
  • Benefit, depending on the visa type, from certain associated rights (student status with the possibility of studying alongside your role, or temporary worker status, social coverage, etc.)

The exact visa category (temporary worker, student, or in some specific cases talent passport) depends on your contract and recruitment programme.

Personalised support for your stay in France

We help you through each step of your process to ensure your visa application is handled in the best possible conditions.

Step 1: identifying the right visa status

First, we analyse your situation to determine the most suitable framework. At this stage, we:

– Review your appointment letter or contract (duration, role, salary, institution)

– Determine the most appropriate status (temporary worker, student or other)

– Clarify the administrative implications of your teaching assignment

This helps you avoid classification errors that could delay your application.

Step 2: preparing your long-stay visa application

We then assist you in preparing your complete application file. We help you:

  • Establish a tailored list of supporting documents (contract, passport, financial resources, accommodation, insurance, diplomas, language level)
  • Complete the France-Visas procedure with a clear presentation of your role
  • Organise your appointment at the consulate or visa centre
  • Respond to any additional requests from the authorities

The fee for this step is €600 (excluding visa fees and external service provider fees).

Step 3: assistance with formalities in France

After your arrival, certain administrative steps remain necessary to secure your stay. We assist you with:

  • Online validation of your VLS-TS
  • Communication with the prefecture if additional documents are requested

The fee for assistance in France is €1,000.
