The “Highly Skilled Employee” visa, commonly referred to as the European Blue Card, is part of the Talent Passport scheme. This scheme allows French companies to recruit highly qualified profiles from non-EU countries within a legally harmonized European framework.
The residence permit is a strategic attractiveness tool for French employers facing specific skills needs, while offering the employee administrative and professional stability in France.
What are the legal framework and eligibility conditions to obtain this visa?
To be eligible for the highly skilled employee visa and residence permit, the person recruited in France must notably justify:
- A permanent (CDI) or fixed-term (CDD) employment contract of at least six months, concluded with an employer established in France.
- A high level of qualification, evidenced either by a diploma representing at least three years of higher education, or by professional experience of at least five years of a comparable level.
- Annual gross remuneration at least equal to 1.5 times the average reference annual gross salary, i.e., €53,836.50.
The “Talent Passport” multi-year residence permit issued within this framework includes a work authorization; no separate request is required.

Validity of the residence permit
It corresponds to the duration of the employment contract. When the contract duration is at least 2 years, the residence permit can be issued for a maximum duration of 4 years. It is renewable as long as the employment and salary conditions are still met.
